For most of us who believe in social media the video is a reinforcement , but there are obviously a huge number which still would like to believe it is a fad or a bubble(for more on the debate check out the comments on the video on youtube, comments).
In India we are still a few years behind, so maybe it gives us a glimpse how the future would be ...as has been indicated by the TCS web 2.0 survey...
Saw the video on John Battelle's blog...
Do you really think the Social media marketing will take off?
ReplyDeleteNow the MLM are happening in social media in U.S. that's the latest trend.
Yes, profession like journalism may vanish as 3G will come in and recently Nada was killed in Teheran the Twitter made a revolution, the Iran Govt thought of banning Twitter.
But the biggest question that SMM can it really takes off in a country like India where the per capita income is roughly US$730 Vis a Vis U.S US$30K.
Information bombardment and marketing are different things.
I'm interested in Digital marketing, as I was setting up big KPO and BPO projects for Genpact/TCS US Client in Calcutta and Gurgaon during my Multitech Systems days.
After all working in IT for last 20
years , in different IT firms, Rolta, Tatas, Multitask Systems and managing projects along with Wipro, TCS, HCL Comnet, one thing is for sure IT is a derived industry, a derived demand, not a direct demand.
A nimbu pani has direct demand in India, but not IT.
Additional US$100 increase in percapita income in India, we have to double our production capacity Prof Prahlad said it.
Regards
SHOCKING!!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing video!
Thanks Debashish, for bringing in the alternate perspective, I will share a few of my observations on the impact of social media in the context of marketing, many years back when my friend had decide between a 150cc and 180cc pulsar , he went and put the query on the pulsar users yahoo group, and got comments from users which helped in his decision making, and this is alteast 7-8 years back when there was no orkut and face book. I will share a more recent example, one of my friend on facebook shared her frustration with Reliance Net connect and told she was planning to buy Tata Photon and within a few minutes there was response from another three of her friends suggesting that airtel was better...
ReplyDeleteThough these are examples at micro level, but I personally feel that social media will have a major role to play and we will have to see how things actually evolve especially as you have pointed out in the context of our country..
@ Sameera, :))
